The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore recommends that every accredited institution establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure. This recommendation is made in accordance with its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality up-grading of institutions of higher education. The IQAC will integrate into the institution’s system and work to achieve the objectives of quality enhancement and sustenance because quality improvement is a continual activity. The main goal of the IQAC is to create a system for consciously, consistently, and catalytically improving institutions’ overall performance. For this reason, the institution will focus all of its efforts and resources during the post-accreditation period on promoting its comprehensive academic excellence.

The IQAC’s activity is the initial stage in internalising and institutionalising quality improvement measures. The sense of engagement and belonging it may foster among all of the institution’s members is essential to its success. It won’t be another hierarchical structure or a way for the institution to keep track of records. It will function as an institution’s facilitative and participatory volunteer system, unit, or organ. It has the potential to be a tool for bringing about quality improvement by developing planned interventionist techniques to eliminate flaws and improve quality, similar to “Quality Circles”.
